FINE WOOL WRAP SNAP TUNIC DRESS

We LOVE Finding out about Fashion in the Hudson Valley.  Living so close to Manhattan and knowing that NYC is the fashion capitol of the world, it’s surprising there aren’t more young fashion designers finding their way to the Hudson Valley with it’s less expensive rents for studio’s and design shops.

We’re so glad Gail Travis of New Form Prospective (NFP Studio) found Beacon!

In these rapidly changing times, NFP fosters the concept of transition, transformation and evolution. Gail Travis has designed a collection of smart geometric shapes and styles that are of the moment, but NOT bound by time! Each piece has the ability to LINK, LAYER, FOLD, SNAP, SHIFT or CONNECT, creating a platform for PERSONAL EXPRESSION.

Ultimately, encouraging each individual’s NEW Form & Prospective!

Designer Gail Travis calls the flagship Beacon studio her base. What started as a pop-up store a few years ago is now open by appointment only. She also has a store in NYC at 215 Mulberry Street.

Flagship store

Beacon NY Flagship Store & Studio

After working in the high-end fashion design world in NYC for 10 years for companies such as Calvin Klein, Shelly Steffee and Vera Wang, Gail was fatefully guided to design her own brand free from mainstream trends. The GAIL TRAVIS Collection is inspired by her surroundings, personal interactions, experience of movement and architecture and structure. Ultimately, these inspirations morphed into the modular building-block of her designs.

Knitted sweaters (NIT), hand felted dresses (FELT) and tops and foundation jersey pieces of TANKS, BODYSUITS & LEGGINGS (PHRAME) collectively present a unique line of architectural building blocks.

NFP additionally offers a distinctive line of TUNICS, DRESSES and FLOOR-LENGTH GOWNS using a signature felting technique, one of the oldest methods of fabric-making.

NEW  FORM PROSPECTIVE marries felting with diaphanous featherweight jerseys in subtle, muted colors creating stunning, sophisticated, modern foils for layering knits.

Did You Feel That

Something’s Happening…Did You Feel That

No, Listen! I’ll wait for you.

Yup, I felt it…I bet you did to! It’s that time of year, fall is coming and we need to start thinking what are we going to wear!

You see, something happens after July 4th.  While we are enjoying Summer barbecues, beaches and HOT Summer days, retailers are putting their summer season clothes on sale.

It starts innocently enough, a few transitional pieces start showing up in stores and online. I’m sure your getting emails from your favorite stores that strategically show a brands inventory. By August 1st, it’s official! We are in full swing Back to School mode, or in my case, time to build your work wardrobe for a new season.  Last week, I visited the Eileen Fisher Lab Store in Irvington. If you follow my features, you may have read my previous story on Eileen Fisher and you know that Irvington is the headquarters of the Eileen Fisher brand.

Dear Reader, Something is happening in my life and it’s effecting my my closet. Maybe it’s my age, maybe it’s the times we are living in, Maybe it’s HOW the world is changing. Maybe I am changing. Whatever it is…take heed…once you learn to LET THINGS GO…Change is Good! Um… Sometimes. GC-T3931-BONE-ALT

Take some advice. Start looking through your own closet. Take time to take some stock of what you own, what looks great on you and what doesn’t. A new season gives us the opportunity to do this.

GC-T3820-BLACK-ALT

If your looking to update your look or fill in pieces this is the time to get organized and really be honest with yourself.

Go ahead…go to your closet and try on EVERYTHING…create some new looks and outfits. You know that sweater you love from a few years back? It may not look that great anymore. Or, on the other hand, you may find something that needs to be replaced or matched up with something new.

OJ-T3808-BLACK-ALT

Make sure you have the basics. This means a basic black dress, white shirts, skirts that are the right length and look flattering for your age and figure and tops and sweaters to get you into Indian Summer and cooler days.

Taking it easy.

Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern

Luxury Boutique Hotel

100 miles north of New York City, in the village of Saugerties Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern is a Destination Luxury Boutique Hotel. With  picturesque views of the Esopus Creek and Catskill Mountains and close proximity to the Hudson River, it has become a favorite place for guests visiting from New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, Albany, upstate New York, as well as the Hudson Valley. IMG_0419

The Cantine Paper Mill, built in 1888 formerly stood at this very location. The mill closed its doors in 1966, and a fire in 1978 devastated the original building leaving the lot vacant for many years.  In 2010, Thomas Struzzieri; President and CEO of Diamond Mills, acquired the property. He would take his morning run by the property and thought it would be a great location to open a luxury property that would accommodate special occasions in Saugerties.

You may recognize Tom’s name from HITS Horse Shows  Tom has a vision for creating things. He has created  HITS Horse Shows, a world class horse show circuit, Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern; a luxury boutique hotel in the Village of Saugerties, as well as the 2015 opening of  Black Barn Restaurant in NYC.

Today, 7000 square feet of versatile conference and special event space make up Diamond Mills. The conference and special event space is unrivaled by anything in the area. The hotel is compromised of 28 guest rooms and 2 suites.  The suites have two floors. One is called The Tower Suite and the other the Esopus Suite. All guest rooms have outdoor sitting areas with views of the rushing Esopus Falls.

The village of Saugerties is a short walk up the street where guests can enjoy shopping and local eateries. The boutique hotel offers in room mini bar, overstuffed duvets, luxury Egyptian cotton linens, room service from the Tavern, and complimentary wine and cheese social each evening in The Tavern.

We sat down and talked with Mark Rice, Concierge at the hotel for five years and Morgan Marks; Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the hotel and the Tavern.  Mark tells us how guests are pleasantly surprised to find Diamond Mills in the quaint village of Saugerties. They like how the hotel  accommodates weddings and includes world class cuisine at The Tavern.  Guests like the staff, great housekeeping and like to dine at The Tavern.

Wedding guests have such a good experience at Diamond Mills they often tell a relative or friend and wind up coming back for additional weddings. That is how most of the hotel’s wedding business has grown.

HITS Horse Shows

Many of the exhibitors and spectators for HITS Horse Shows also find their way to Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern.   They stay at the hotel or come by for cocktails and dinner after a horse show.  Exhibitors come from all over the country and Diamond Mills offers a nearby barn with stables for equestrian owners. The outdoor patio is a great place to experience a few cocktails with the Esopus Creek view.

A conference room is also available for meetings and luncheons and many local professionals use the space to host meetings with clients.
